Inquiry boom in the wake of Portuguese contract

“It is evident that our solutions are gaining ground in the ongoing electrification of ferries and freighters”, says Geir Arne Bjørkelund, Zinus’ Sales Manager.
With equipment from Zinus as part of ABB’s integrated scope the Portuguese ferry company Transtejo S.A. is electrifying three ferry routes across the Tagus River in Lisbon. This means emission-free transport for the 19 million passengers who use these crossings annually.

In May, Zinus announced the delivery of 20 charging connections to 10 electric ferries that will carry passengers across the Tagus River in the Portuguese capital Lisbon. Following this announcement, the company has experienced a significant increase in European inquiries regarding Zinus’ charging solutions.

“It is evident that our solutions are gaining ground in the ongoing electrification of ferries and freighters. We are currently experiencing great interest in our autonomous charging solutions, especially from Portugal and the surrounding areas. The design, flexibility and short connection time of our systems are highlighted as main reasons for the inquiries,” says Geir Arne Bjørklund, Sales Manager at Zinus.

ABB AS awarded Zinus the contract for the SWC 100 onboard charging connections.  This was the largest single order Zinus has received for this product, and the company could also note another country on its global reference list.

“The fact that a large and recognized player such as ABB chooses our solution is also an important recognition of Zinus’ technology, which we hope and believe will give us even more opportunities both nationally and internationally in the years to come,” Endre Eidsvik, CEO of Zinus, stated back in May.
